Indications Urinary retention, post-operative dystension due to paralyticileus.
Caution Take on empty stomach. May cause dizziness or drowsiness. See neostigmine.
Dose Range Adult: 10-50mg 3-4 times daily . Inj. 5mg s.c. and repeat (double if necessary , according to individual response).

Indications Mild to moderate dementia in Alzheimer’s disease.
Caution Nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, dizziness, agitation, muscle cramps.
Dose Range Initially 5mg once daily at bedtime increased if necessary after 4-6
weeks to 10mg once daily .

Indications Treatment of myasthenia gravis but very short acting. (Half-life may be less than 1 hour).
Caution Prototype anticholinesterase, para-sympathomimetic. Nausea,

Dose Range Adult: 15-60mg every 2-4 hours as necessary . 1-2.5mg i.m. in emergencies.

Active Ingredient PYRIDOSTIGMINE
Therapeutic Class PARASYMPATHOMIMETIC (CHOLINERGIC) AGENTS
Indications Myasthenia gravis. Preferable to neostigmine because of longer half-life (1-3 hours). Delayed format is available.
Caution As for neostigmine; note "Cholinergic Crises' or paralysis due to over medication (abdominal cramp s most useful warning). C.f. prescribing in renal disease p. 36.
Dose Range Adult: 60-180mg every 3-6 hours, carefully titrated for optimal effects. Paediatric: under 6 y ears: 30 mg; 6 to 12 y ears: 60 mg, increasing to a maximum of 30 to 360 mg daily .
