Indications	Relief and/or prophylaxis of asthma and reversible bronchospasm. Patients unresponsive to salbutamol inhaler, or who cannot use bronchodilator inhalers, or in severe asthmatics where combination with salbutamol may be useful.
Caution	Patients should take medication at the same time each morning. Look for end of dose sy mp toms. Headache, insomnia, restlessness, tremor, tachycardia. G.I. up set especially nausea and vomiting. C.f. prescribing in liver disease p. 18.
Dose Range	Adult: 100-300mg daily as a single dose.
Drug Interactions
Pregnancy	Theophylline can be taken as normal during pregnancy as it is particularly important that asthma should be well controlled during pregnancy.
Breast Feeding	Theophylline can be taken as normal during breast-feeding.
