Therapeutic Class	ANGIOTENSIN II RECEPTOR ANTAGONIST
Indications	Hypertension and heart failure, particularly in patients who develop cough with ACE inhibitors.
Caution	Headache, upper respiratory infection, dizziness and cough. Cough, dizziness, edema and nausea, vomiting were significantly more frequent in patients aged 76 years and over.
Dose Range	Adult: 25-100mg orally once or twice daily is effective as either monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensives (diuretics in p articular) in mild to moderate hypertension. See BDS supply protocols pg. 7.
Drug Interactions
Pregnancy	Drugs that act on the angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus when used in the second and third trimesters. Angiotensin receptor blockers should be discontinued as soon as possible once pregnancy is detected.
Breast Feeding	Avoid breastfeeding during use of losartan.
