LABETALOL
BETA ADRENERGIC BLOCKING AGENTS
Hypertension.
Avoid in patients with history of bronchial asthma or chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease, conditions associated with severe and prolonged hypotension. Adverse effects include bronchospasm, headache, scalp tingling, urinary retention hepatotoxicity (severe), tiredness,muscle weakness. C.f. prescribing in liver disease p. 14.
Adult: Hypertension: Initially 100mg twice daily with food gradually increased if necessary to 200-400mg twice daily. Paediatric:1 month-12 years: 1-2 mg/kg three or four times daily.12 to 18 years: initial dose; 50 to 100 mg twice daily with food gradu
Labetalol is considered an appropriate agent for the treatment of hypertension in pregnancy.
Labetalol is distributed in breastmilk. Use with caution in lactating women.
