LOOP DIURETICS

Resistant oedema, renal failure, pulmonary oedema.
|
|
|
Fluid or electrolyte disturbances hyponatremia, hypotension, gout and glucose intolerance; deafness in renal failure; may precipitate prostatic urinary retention; toxicity with cephaloridine.c.f. prescribing in liver and renal disease p. 13; 30.

Adults and Children over 12 years: 20-80mg up to a max. of 600mg in severe cases. May be more effective given twice daily . Slow i.v. 20-50mg. Pediatric 1 month-12 years: 0.5mg-2mg/kg, 2-3 times daily (500mg tablet available as a Category B at Q.E.H. Pharmacy for use by Consultant in renal dialysis unit only).
