Usually as an adjunct to corticosteroids, in autoimmune disorders, e.g. SLE and rheumatoid arthritis. C.f. prescribing in liver and renal disease p. 11; 23.

leukopenia, infection,abdominal pain, alopecia, diarrhea, fever, rash, bone marrow suppression, myalgia

1-3mg/kg daily , usually 100-200mg daily . Take with food.

Azathioprine can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman.The manufacturer also states that azathioprine should not be used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in pregnant women.
|
|
Breast feeding has not been recommended in azathioprine therapy because of the potential risk of immunosuppression in the infant.
